THE WORLD OWES YOU NOTHING: WHY YOUR LIFE IS UP TO YOU

“Your life: whatever comes of it is up to you.”

You want  something in life, you go for it. No one is going to give it to you and won’t care if you ever have it. So it’s your job to go into the world and make your own luck. Now, I could sit here and go through all the stories of how some people have it hard. Yet when it’s all said and done, everyone has something on their plate. And the world is just not interested in caring about whatever it is you’re going through in life. So where does that leave people who don’t have direction? It leaves them with their hands in the air. Because as an adult, you have to figure your life out.

Hey, easier said than done right? Well, in so many cases it’s actually wrong. I am in my late 20’s; actually I should just say thirty years of age by now. And I watch people my age go to the clubs and enjoy their lives. Yet I sit inside of a computer lab, typing away. Trying to come up with my next blog topic, my next screenplay idea, my next book, or my next anything that will make me a better writer. Meanwhile, so many guys my age do nothing. I don’t understand it, I just don’t. To me, my life is not moving as fast as I thought it would. So, in the moment, I feel like I am being just as unproductive as them. My life could turn out to be a dud just like the guy who sits around and does nothing.

And what’s scary, is that I could never achieve anything remotely close to the success I want in life. But that’s just life; there is no guarantee of making a living in society. I could put my life into my work and fail. But so many can’t stomach the idea of putting their all into something and it not pan out. They expect something to happen. They might ask, “How much time should I dedicate to doing this or that?” Or they’ll say, “So if I do everything you just said will it make me successful?” And real answer is, who knows. You have no clue what might transpire, but that’s actually what’s good about this roller coaster ride we call life. You might not even try that hard and win, or work your ass off and lose. There is no guarantee and no one owes you anything.

Because in the end, your life is whatever you make it. No one has to make things happen for you, that’s your job. Yes, there may be people who give you an opportunity along the way, but it’s not owed to you. You take it for what it’s worth and keep going. Because win or lose, your success in life will ultimately come down to how much you have prepared. And for those that haven’t prepared, it will show in their lives.

LOSE OF INNOCENCE: HOW ADULTHOOD ROBS YOU OF YOU

Image result for ADULTHOOD

“You lose and lose and lose; then maybe you win.”

When you’re young, everyone tells you about how adulthood will pan out, Yet it does not quite amount to the struggle when you do become and adult. You’re told you have to work to become the person you want to be. But when you’re actually working to be that person, then you see it first hand. And you start to ask questions you never thought you would find yourself asking. Questions like, “Are humans really built to work like this everyday?” “I want a one dollar McChicken from McDonald’s; you mean to tell me I need a full-time job for a one dollar sandwich?” And with all the questions you ask, hopefully you’re able to come out on top. Yet so many don’t come out on top.

So inevitably, what is lost from your climb to success. In my opinion, when all you’re doing is working, then a bit of innocence is lost. You lose some humanity, as well as you becoming a little less empathetic person. You go from caring about the loved ones around you to what’s in it for me. And that’s when even more of you is lost. But why are we like this? Well, it’s because of how man constructed society.  Humans evolved to live on this planet, but not to necessarily work all the time. But we also needed to construct the world to keep everything in order also. So part of that keeping order was building economies. And as a driver in these economies, jobs and a marketplace of buyers and sellers.

So now, society is situated around attaining a living. Yet we are not happy creatures; more stressed than anything. But we continue on because there is this held belief that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We wake up every morning giving thanks for another day on Earth. But how content are we really? Maybe this is the reason we cling on to other aspects of society, like religion or having social lives. Or even maintaining monogamous relationships. It gives a real human existence outside the hustle of our work lives. Because a vast majority of our lives is predicated on what we do for a living. So it’s tough when we don’t have anything going on outside of work.

In the end, the older we get, the more we lose ourselves. And when I say ourselves, I don’t mean our self-respect. I mean this small amount of humanity that we lose. I think this is why we sometimes place ourselves around charities. We give back because it gives us what we lose through so much struggle in life.

MY DAY JOB, YAWN: WHY DO PEOPLE LOOK FORWARD TO FRIDAY AND DREAD SUNDAY NIGHT

Rear View of Man Working in Office

“I wish I were anywhere else but here.”

5:30 am, the alarm blares, and you role out of bed. You go straight to the bathroom, and stare yourself in the mirror because you are about to start your day of work. But first, you have to get yourself clean; so you turn on the shower. Scrambling for a towel, you find one and hang it on the rack. bed, bedroom, breakfastYou’re still half asleep even with the illumination of the light. That’s until the hot water hit your body. And when you’re half sleep, you sometimes turn on the water too hot, or too cold. And that is a shock out of this world; either the feeling of being in an ice box, or immediate pain of scorching temperatures.

After your shower, and you get dressed, it’s time to leave the house. With one step outside, all you can think about is the end of the day. Isn’t that something, you’re not even off the premises of your house and already you feel disconnected from work. And arriving at work is no better because nowcommuter, commuting, late all you’re thinking about is the weekend. And that’s when it’s confirmed; you hate your day job. Because if come Monday you’re thinking of Friday, and Sunday night, you’re dreading Monday morning, your life is being wasted. But what else is there for people to do. If you’ve found your career of interest you love all seven days.

Now on the other hand, if you’re one of these people that hate what you do, everyday is a drag. Because the weekend is not even good enough. Saturdays are rest days, and Sunday is in preparation for Monday. So how do you have a life that you want? Or better yet, how do you find out what Man in White Shirt Using Macbook Proyou’re good at, to even pursue the life you want? So many people don’t even know what they’re good at to pursue. You hear so many people say I want a good paying job, but what’s a job. They always say they need a job they like, but what’s a job you like. Yet when you ask what’s a good job, they look at you like you’re supposed to know.

I would liken adults looking for better employment opportunities to a crying baby. The baby can’t communicate what is wrong, but is hurting for some reason. And they expect you to know, but they can’t communicate to you why they are hurting. Only problem with adults is that they can communicate what’s wrong. And what’s wrong is they don’t like what they Related imagedo for a living. They don’t know what they are good, don’t even know the job they want, but know they hate their current position. An impossible feat in my opinion regarding wanting something new. Why, well if you don’t have a skill or self-awareness, how do you move forward?

Knowing your skills, you can manipulate your life how you want it to pan out. But lacking skills is why people say they need new work, I hate my job, or I need a new job. And in the end, that’s the problem with so many people who hate what they do, and would like something else. They don’t have any skills, or they lack the necessary skills needed to have a better career. It’s almost like we all hold our breathe, hoping for something to come. And when nothing comes we ask why. It’s because you have to make your own luck in our society. Easier said than done.

THE NOW: WHY DON’T SOME RECOGNIZE THE GRIND

adventure, cold, mountain

“Put the work in, and you’ll understand how you get there.”

No matter who it is, whether in the public eye or some average man or woman, dealing with the downsides of success is real. And when I say the downsides, I am referring to the people who try to make you feel some sort of penalty because you’ve made something of yourself. The people who see what you do as trivial. Something that can be easily accomplished with just a few quick steps. But what they don’t know is that you’ve been cultivating your craft in whatever you’ve been doing for quite some time. Toiling for years while everyone else was living their lives. So was it about your come up that make some express disdain?

One of the reasons is that it further magnifies how much they have wasted their own lives. If you start working toward your goals at age 21 or 22, and become very financially set by the age of 30/31, they can’t understand. They stand on the side trying to piece together what it was that set you over the top. Almost like it was this one thing you did that made you pop in your career. Notice I said started at age 22 and now you’re 30, 31, or even 32 years action, active, activityof age. All that time in between was the struggle years. The years that while others were enjoying their youth in their twenties, you were working. And now they see you, and it sets in how much time they’ve spent just sitting around. Now it’s hard to get in the game because you now know what could have been if you just buckled down initially.

But see, there’s more, there’s more that goes into people not being able to understand the grind. Another reason has to do with the cognitive abilities of the person pursuing their goals. The average person’s IQ is around 110, so some have a hard time believing we have these people with a 150, 160, or Midsection of Man Holding Hands over White Backgroundeven 200 IQ. And that biological factor is ingrained in some people where their brain processes information differently. They are able to wrap their minds around mathematics, science, sociology, business, and any other facet of productivity in society. And explaining the way their brains work is tough because how do you really explain why your mind understands what it does. No one can wrap their mind around their mind. It’s that certain aspects of life make sense to them and they run with it.

Which leads me into my next reason why some people can’t recognize the grind. The idea of trying and failing is something that eludes them. I myself am a person that is able to take my failure in stride and move on to create better things. Some sit on the side and say what you shouldn’t do, but they’re only projecting their feelings on to you. They’re telling you don’t do it, take it from someone whose been down the road. But what they’re actually saying is it didn’t work for me and I’m smarter than you. So I know it won’t work for you. Your ability to do something further they can’t makes them feel mundane and unaccomplished. Your potential success makes them feel bitter from not achieving their own goals out of life.

In the end, as with the people who respect your come up there will be the ones downing your come up. Instead of taking the blueprint and using it as a basic template to build something for themselves, they find any reason to say how it won’t work. And you can’t get through to these people because achievement, adventure, bravethey are looking for someone to subscribe to their bullshit. But why would I subscribe to your ideology if it’s gotten you nowhere. So I say to all successful people or those embarking on your journey keep working. Like Denzel Washington stated in a speech he gave at the NAACP Image Awards. “Keeping moving, keep growing, keep learning: see you at work.”

YOUR PLIGHT IS EVERYONE’S PLIGHT: HOW TO OVERCOME HARDSHIP IN A SOCIETY WITH ITS OWN ISSUES

Image result for PLIGHT

“I can’t make time for yours, when I have my own.”

Too often, we hear people say, that they have it hard in life because of some extenuating circumstance. They want people to be sensitive to their plight in life. But here is a short answer to how people feel regarding your plight in life, “No one cares.” And when I say that, it really isn’t in a way as to come off as condescending on someone else. It’s just that in life, everyone has something that they are trying to overcome. Your situation is not indicative of you, and the world doesn’t revolve around you. You might be going through something tragic in your life; but we all do.

So why do people feel it is society’s duty to correct something in their lives that happen to so many people everyday. One of the reasons is that it is harder to come out of the rut you’re in. You have been so down on yourself, that how do begin to get out of the rut. It’s like being trapped in a ten foot hole with no supplies to get out. Even if you try to jump as high as you possibly can the highest you can reach is eight of ten needed to get out the hole. So you tell people, be more sensitive to my situation. Fine, and you know what, if you were stuck in hole, people are more than willing to pull you out. But if all these people are around you stuck in holes, then you are lost in the struggle. So you have to find some type of way to get out.

Tough when you don’t have a discernible skill to dig yourself out. And here is another reason people cannot overcome their plight; no skills in life. If you are in the know or even willing to put yourself in the know of what you want, you can elevate yourself. It’s hard for people to see that who are suffering because they only see their current situation. And putting yourself in the know is difficult, but not impossible. Let’s say you want to be a doctor, but grew up in impoverished environments. What do you possibly know about becoming a physician, must less actually being a doctor. Well, you know that Google we use to look up all sorts of debauchery. It’s that same Google we can use to seek out information. Look up countless bits and pieces, and somewhere within the multitude of info is that truth. Me, I wanted to write screenplays, so I clicked how to write a screenplay. And for the past seven years I have wrote and researched how to get better at writing them.

So putting yourself in the know is another aspects of getting yourself out of situations you’re not happy with. Well what about ethnic, religious, or gender disparities that block you in life. And you know what, they exist and will always. But it’s like that old saying, “If someone made it that looks like you, it’s possible.” It’s not guaranteed, but possible. And in the end, that is the biggest issue in society. Everyone want a guarantee and nothing in life is guaranteed. You might work your whole life and never make it. So it’s really not the plight that’s the main concern. It’s putting your all into something and it going nowhere. That’s a reality, but those who are resilient reap rewards. Failure does not determine your outcome, but your willingness to persevere through adversity.  It’s like Denzel Washington stated in a speech, “Ease is a greater threat to progress in life than hardship.” “So keep striving keep pushing, and see you at work.”

MAKING YOUR OWN LUCK: HOW TO OPEN YOUR OWN DOORS TO SUCCESS

Image result for SUCCESS

“Don’t wait for someone else, you make you.”

So many people in the United States have a hard time securing themselves a spot in our economy. They live their daily lives not doing what it is they want to do. Working dead end jobs and working just to have enough money to exist. Then there are the people who step out into society and make things happen for themselves. And the question now stands, “What separates the people who stepped out versus the others? Was it some form of talent that the other didn’t possess, was it the opportunities, or was it the willingness to not give in and give up. The answer is all of the above. But more so, you have to be willing to make your own luck.

What does that mean to make your own luck? Especially in a society where we have become so dependent on one way of succeeding in America, now that focus has shifted. And if you can’t shift with the focus you get left behind. The factories where automobiles were manufactured is a prime example of the focus shifting and to a more automation driven workplace. People were so used to a daily task that when the task changed to a more informational base/engineering base, people have a hard time shifting. Others see this as how societies have always shifted. So they just roll with the punches. But what I just said is still not enough information to make your own luck.

Let’s say you have a skill in teaching. You know that finding a good teaching job is tough. There are so many internet web portals where teachers are making an extra income working for themselves. They are building their resumes this way until something comes along. Tutoring multiple students counts as work history. It will show not only can you command a student’s attention, but your initiative to put yourself out there proves you could make a good educator. Or, let’s say you want to get into the medical field at a great hospital. But getting a job at this hospital is so tough. Try to work at a small clinic and build credibility with a community. Or try working overseas at a clinic in a poor village. You are not making much money, but you will learn to appreciate patients and medicine outside the monetary until you can get to that point.

All of this is hard because people say things  like, “You have better opportunities because you grew up with money.” “I was born to a certain economic situation.” “I am a minority and no one will hire me.” Fine, let’s say I am empathetic to your plight, now what. What is expected next? And that’s just it, what next. You grew up poor, minority, and poor education system. But there has to be a what are you looking for in this momentary position. Meaning, I grew up poor, I am an adult now. What do you expect someone to do for you today? For instance, I grew up the first 18 years broke, I am 30 years old now. Now I have nothing to show, but it was because I grew up poor. Ok, today is Friday, what are you hoping to expect Monday morning. Most people will say a job.

Ok, we are getting somewhere, a job. Then I ask what can you do, what do you do, and what have you done lately. This is when you hear crickets. Because people say it’s hard to get a job when you need work experience to get a job. So with that said how do I make my own luck. Well for starters, work experience is not necessarily a paid employment position. And a job is an ambiguous term, what position and title. Like my previous post, I spoke about self awareness being needed to make your own luck. If you are aware of self, you know the job title, income range, time on average to attain what it is you want. With that said, you can make something out of what seems like nothing. But when you have no awareness of what you’re good at, what are you good for. “I want a job,” you say; then I say, “What are your skills?” Nothing formulates after that with some people.

In the end, making your own luck comes from self awareness, willingness to not give in, accepting failure, and willing to start from somewhere. People only look at the finished outcome and judge based on that alone. There is some regular man or woman walking the street now, and we see them as normal. Once they hit a stride in their careers, we go, how. What you should do is ask people on their path to something, then once you see the finished product you can understand how they got there. But as long as you go you’re successful, it’s this, you miss all that in between work when no one knew who they were. It was the in between work of failures, living broke, consistency that landed them on their success path. Because experience is a broad term, yet that is what they were gaining, experience. They didn’t have dollars, but they had experience over you.

RUNNING ON E: EVER WISH YOU HAD MORE TIME FOR YOU

Image result for RUNNING ON E

“Ever need a filler up?”

Have you ever came home at the end of the day and your body was exactly on E. You wake up in the morning on full and by the days end you have nothing to give. Some of us even wake up with equal or less than half a tank of gas. What are you to do to when you have such a lack of energy? More so, how do most people come to this point in their lives of little to no energy on a daily basis? It can be a multitude of issues ranging from children to employment. It can be running an errand or constantly worrying about bills that need to be paid. But for the most part it is children and employment.

Starting with children, children are an adjustment to people’s lives that forces you to restructure your whole entire existence. Especially when the children are so young. When a child is an infant, your every moment you are free must be spent with them to build a form of familiarity. So not only are you trying to balance a job, but you need to spend unpaid free time with a child. You’re feeding them, playing with them, rocking them to sleep. And if they wake up crying you must be the one putting them back to sleep. Is there any other area where people feel they are running on empty? And there is, it’s from the previous paragraph: employment.

When you get up in the morning from the sound of that alarm, the first thing you think is same shit different day. Some of us like I said before are waking up to half a tank of energy. Others are close to E, yet they have to find some form of energy to raise themselves to half a tank or more. So how is that possible? How is it possible that we operate on such a low amount of energy and still make it to work and perform our task? Some people say luck while others feel it is a blessing. But I think it tends to be more than that. It is survival and you’ll be surprised the things you can do, especially in desperate situations. So how do you change course? How do you shift your life so that you can operate on full or close to it?

A lot of us operating on low energy has to do with the quality of life. People with a poor quality of life typically operate on lower levels of energy. But the desperation to survive keeps them going. Hanging on by a thread, but nonetheless still going. Now is that anyway to live, no, but for some it’s the only way to live. Or it may be the only way they know how to live. But it is going to take more than just what you know, to live. Like in a previous topic, I stated tapping into your inner talent. That requires self awareness; the self awareness which will take you from the running on E feeling. But tapping into inner you requires years of work, skill, keeping your eyes open and watching society around you. Nature will show you the way and your feeling on running out of energy will show you how to slow things down.
