THE HIGH COST OF NOTHING: WHY DOING SOMETHING IS WORTH MORE THAN DOING NOTHING

blackboard, board, chalk“I’m not guaranteed to succeed, so why try.”

At times you might figure, why bother trying to succeed in what it is you want to do in life. I should just get a day job and do that for life. There is no use trying to push toward something to only be let down in life. Yet if you don’t do anything with your life you will ultimately fail anyways. So why not push yourself to do well with the hopes of a successful outcome. And the main reason is that people don’t want to deal with the idea of failing. So we choose our paths in life that gives us the most safety. But safety and security is not necessarily the path that will lead to us being the best us. A safe secure life usually means lower to mid range pay and little to no time off of work.

And that is not a life so many people want, but wind-up having for themselves. And for the people that are willing to put the time into making themselves better, they generally are put into positions higher than those that don’t work at their future. And that’s another aspect of why people find it hard to work at their craft and play life safe. Putting the work into your future requires a lot of alone time to reflect and plan. Then you also have to take what you have planned and put it in motion. That’s where you see the difference between the people who can talk a good game, and those that actually go into the world and do. And the ones that do nothing, generally end up not doing anything in life. But what are some other reasons people tend to do nothing and play life safe or fail to succeed at anything.

In addition to the above reasons we choose to do nothing because of the outside influences. The people who say what you’re doing you’re not good enough. They are the ones that either don’t want you to succeed because they weren’t good enough; or they can’t bear to see anyone outshine them. So they try to knock you down to keep you from trying, and maybe succeeding at what they failed to accomplish. So with them as influences, you become in doubt, and soon give up on your ambitions. And this is when you make your fatal mistake. See, the end, it’s not about trying to impress the people around you. You are supposed to run your race in life. You also don’t want to not try out of fear of failure. Because the cost of doing something might overall be less costly than doing nothing at all.

MAKE THEM CATCH YOU: HOW COMPROMISING YOURSELF FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS IS NOT SMART

Athletes Running on Track and Field Oval in Grayscale Photography

“Catch up or be left in the dust.”

Ever been running a race and there is someone who you know is in the race with you. You guys both are trying to win yet encourage each other. But you have to also keep in mind that there are others in this race running with the both of you. So if you are in 3rd place and your friend is in 5th, you want that 5th place friend to catch up. But remember, there is 4th between you both, 6th, 7th, and 8th place in the back. And that’s when you start to care less about the position your friend is in, and more about trying to win the race yourself. Because your goal is not to worry about the place where your friend is sitting, but more so where you need to be. And where you need to be, is moving yourself in position for the 1st place win.

See, you can’t think about the person in 5th place that you know. They have to be bent on catching up to you, otherwise, you have to let them lose. And this topic is not about participating in sports. This topic is about trying to run your race in life. I was watching an interview that Hip Hop artist Snoop Dogg was apart of where he was discussing this same thing. He stated when he first entered the entertainment business, it was him and his friends. Then, as time progressed he stood tall and they never left their position. And the only way to be at their level was to come back down. And that’s when you start compromising your talents in this world. Which is a statement that I agree with wholeheartedly. You cannot make someone want to be something in life unless they are bent on going the distance themselves. Because you do more harm to them than help to them.

The way I see it, your 3rd place should make them motivated to run faster even if it’s only to finish strong 5th. Hey, and they might catch that 4th place person or even you. But if you drop back to help them, you’re now risking 4th catching you, and also 6th, 7th, and 8th. Now both of you guys are stuck in the back of the pack. And some people are comfortable in the back as long as there is someone there with them. Me, I am far from OK with being in the back of the pack. So in the end, the person who is running behind you have to have it in their mind to want to catch up in life. Because if you keep aiding them, they’ll never grow. They’ll always want you to carry them somewhere. Sometimes you just have to let them fail and keep moving.

THE WORLD OWES YOU NOTHING: WHY YOUR LIFE IS UP TO YOU

Image result for your life

“Your life: whatever comes of it is up to you.”

You want  something in life, you go for it. No one is going to give it to you and won’t care if you ever have it. So it’s your job to go into the world and make your own luck. Now, I could sit here and go through all the stories of how some people have it hard. Yet when it’s all said and done, everyone has something on their plate. And the world is just not interested in caring about whatever it is you’re going through in life. So where does that leave people who don’t have direction? It leaves them with their hands in the air. Because as an adult, you have to figure your life out.

Hey, easier said than done right? Well, in so many cases it’s actually wrong. I am in my late 20’s; actually I should just say thirty years of age by now. And I watch people my age go to the clubs and enjoy their lives. Yet I sit inside of a computer lab, typing away. Trying to come up with my next blog topic, my next screenplay idea, my next book, or my next anything that will make me a better writer. Meanwhile, so many guys my age do nothing. I don’t understand it, I just don’t. To me, my life is not moving as fast as I thought it would. So, in the moment, I feel like I am being just as unproductive as them. My life could turn out to be a dud just like the guy who sits around and does nothing.

And what’s scary, is that I could never achieve anything remotely close to the success I want in life. But that’s just life; there is no guarantee of making a living in society. I could put my life into my work and fail. But so many can’t stomach the idea of putting their all into something and it not pan out. They expect something to happen. They might ask, “How much time should I dedicate to doing this or that?” Or they’ll say, “So if I do everything you just said will it make me successful?” And real answer is, who knows. You have no clue what might transpire, but that’s actually what’s good about this roller coaster ride we call life. You might not even try that hard and win, or work your ass off and lose. There is no guarantee and no one owes you anything.

Because in the end, your life is whatever you make it. No one has to make things happen for you, that’s your job. Yes, there may be people who give you an opportunity along the way, but it’s not owed to you. You take it for what it’s worth and keep going. Because win or lose, your success in life will ultimately come down to how much you have prepared. And for those that haven’t prepared, it will show in their lives.

OUTLAWZ: THE FASCINATION WITH THE CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD

Image result for criminal underworld

“They play hard, take what they want, and live it up.”

We watch movies about them, documentaries, and even read their life stories. They are the criminal underworld and for whatever reason we have this fascination with them. The most notable would have to be the Italian Mafia. They have been the interest and the inspiration for so many films in mainstream America. But what is it; what is it about these outlaws that intrigue society so much. The mafia is the biggest, there are also drug cartels and bank robbers as well. There is this mystique about them that attracts us to the life. None of us have the guts to live their lives, yet we are attracted to who they are and what they do.

Let’s look at the cast of people starting with the most popular; the American Mafia. No matter if it’s the Italians in New York and Chicago to the Irish in Boston, we are attracted like magnets to the mafia. From the way they dress to their cordial personalities. Even with the gentlemen like qualities, we still know what they are capable of doing under the right circumstance. But Image result for mafianonetheless we are allured by the racketeering, money laundering, loan sharking, gambling, and light weight drug trafficking. They take what they want and if the authorities put pressure on me, then hey, why not pay them off as well. Then once holidays come around, let’s hand out toys and turkeys to the community. It made them infamous with the law and revered with the public.

But what about the drug cartels? Guys like Frank Lucas to Pablo Escobar all the way to today with El Chapo. We hear about them running multi-billion dollar organizations and eluding authorities. Their lifestyles are so over the top with luxury vehicles, expensive jewelry, and palatial real estate. Their Related imagemuscle in how they deal with people leaves us terrified, yet they still have this aura about them that you stand on the sidelines and gawk. They have been immortalized in our pop culture, mainly through hip hop/rap lyrics. But why, what is the real reason we are so attracted to the criminal underworld?

In my opinion, they represent everything that we hate about our government, that the government makes us do. The don’t pay taxes, buy and sell whatever they want, and live over the top lifestyle most of us can only dream about. And when they die, we have these photos that almost serve as shrines making them martyrs. The communities they live in are more protected by them than our law enforcement. Everyone knows who runs the neighborhood and respects who runs the neighborhood. Unlike the judicial system which could allow people to walk free, you don’t break the laws and codes of their world. And that code is the biggest thing we respect. On paper, systematically, there is code in our society, but our politicians break that code and promise at every turn.

In the end, we will always be fascinated with the criminal underworld. Their lives seem to be so much more fascinating than our own lives. Plus, the very representatives that are hired to represent the people, these criminals flip them the finger to. We’re able to look on at how for once politicians are forced to do their jobs to catch these outlaws. The allure to the gangster lifestyle is eternal and will never end. Because as long as there is a law that could potentially be broken, someone will always try to find ways around it.

GARY V EFFECT: HOW ENTREPRENEURSHIP HAS GROWN IN POPULARITY IN RECENT YEARS

Image result for gary vaynerchuk ART

“What’s hustle to you?”

The above animation is of CEO of Vayner Media Gary Vaynerchuk. He gained wide popularity over the internet for his Daily V and many other web content over YouTube. And since the launch of his popularity he has since been seen as a motivational speaker. Even though he doesn’t look at himself as motivational speaker, he has inspired a wide range of people to embark on their own business endeavors. His famous quotes are known throughout the web whether it’s him telling people to, “Get shit done,” or “Don’t watch three seasons of Lost, and then wonder why nothing is happening in your life.” Now, to be clear, Gary V is not the first person to motivate people to be entrepreneurs, yet he is one of the most popular.

What is it about what Gary says to people that resonates so deeply? Well, the most obvious reason he resonates with people is because of his success. He has taken people on a journey through his life as he has become successful over the years. It’s quite inspirational when you can look at a person’s transformation over the years and actually have video content to track the person. We always say that people had an easy ride, but when you can see the climb it makes that person much more appealing. But there is no success without the work put into the climb. And that is what brings me to my next reason why people connect to Gary.

He gives it to people straight, in a way that everyone can understand. Usually, people who give advice give these very generic answers. Answers that don’t have much substance. Or if they do have substance it requires you to buy their book or attend their seminar. Receiving free content that gives an insight into the world from a person who has taken the leap of faith into society is well worth listening to. So what is it; what has made people lean in the direction toward entrepreneurship? There are a few reasons as to why this could be happening in our society.

For starters, there are so many people in the world who hate their jobs. They wish they could be doing anything other than what they are doing at the moment. So opening a side business to make a little money outside of the daily grind is worth it. But mainly people have become attracted to entrepreneurship because the state of employment has shifted. So many people are out of work, and for those working you’re still barely able to sustain financially. Unlike the past generations, the millennial generation and beyond won’t work a job for 30 plus years and retire in that same place. In America today, working the same job for five years is a stretch.

So in the end, the allure of being an entrepreneur has people ready to dive right in. The only downside, is that most don’t have the stomach to deal with the adversity or daily fight of trying to make a living from absolutely nothing. Truth is, most will give up within their first year of pursuing. In the words of Gary V, “Most people are wired to lose and conform.” That’s life, and it will always be that way. But for the few who can stomach the grind, they make out on top financially and in happiness.
