GUN COUNTRY: THE DIVISIVENESS OF FIREARMS COVERSATIONS

Image result for GUNS IN AMERICA

“My 2nd amendment says so.”

It has only been a few days since the mass shooting in Las Vegas which claimed the lives of 58 people. And already political pundits are in conversations surrounding gun ownership. Should we be able to own them or not? Should the ownership of guns be based on the caliber of weapon? Because a lot of people have no problem with handguns. But when it comes to higher caliber weapons, that’s when the conversation intensifies. And the guns of choice that causes such controversy are the following: AR-15, AK47, Tech9 Uzi, M16, and the 50/60 caliber rifles. These are weapons that can pump out multiple bullets in just seconds. Some ask, why do you need to own a gun with such force. Others say why not because it’s our rights. Well, both people for and against to an extent would be right. Well, how so?

On the side of the gun control people, there is some logic to additional control on top of the already gun control. Number one, there should be to some extent, psychological background checks in order to own firearms. Your mental health should come into play when owning a gun. Any mental instability should raise a red flag. Now, even if the person seek help and they are in a better mental space than prior, they should still have a tough time attaining a gun. Another rational argument is that it is an amendment, but the time period in which the document was written is totally different than today. In the times of the second amendment being written, they intended for people to own the guns of their time period. The second amendment also was to keep an additional checks and balance over the government so we wouldn’t be subject to abuse from the system. But if the government wanted to stop you in today’s society, your highest caliber of rifle couldn’t stop them.

As for the gun owners in America who feel their rights are being infringed upon, they have a different point of view. They understand the background checks, but guns that are killing people everyday in America are not by legalized owners. A lot of the high statistics are aimed at the inner city communities where guns are used in gangland battles. And politicians are using that statistic to restrict gun owners, while not addressing the problem in these communities. And a lot of these guns used are stolen anyways, so background checks don’t work all the time. As far as the second amendment, the fore fathers did think of the guns of their time. But using that logic, the guns of their time was muskets, but the guns of our time are higher caliber rifles. We also have the right to protect our homes and families just as well as the public figures of America. Considering the homes invaded on a daily and nightly basis are the homes of the average Joe.

In the end, political conversations have been going debating this issues for years. Nothing is going to happen because for the most part, gun ownership is seen as more of a conservative viewpoint. And even with the country switching between liberal and conservative, conservatism in America still reigns supreme. And as long as we have a large country-municipal-township-America and a smaller metropolis America, gun ownership will be around. Meaning, a lot of people against gun ownership usually live in major metropolitan cities. But America is not a metropolis, it’s a lot of towns and cities you have never heard of. And as long as they exist, we will see gun ownership in America.

TRUTHERS: WHY CONSPIRACIES OCCUR AFTER MASSIVE EVENTS

Related image

“Planned randomness, or randomness?”

No matter if it’s the September 11th attacks that claimed the lives of a few thousand to the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, people are already starting to put together their conspiracies as to what “REALLY” took place in Vegas. And notice I said really in quotations. Because people have to believe that there has been some sort of foul play on the part of the government. Some type of false flag that leads us in a bad direction and away from the truth. And that truth has always been to divide and conquer. But why do people do it? Why must we come up with these different types of conspiracy theories to make sense of the events that take place in our lives? Does it have to do with some aspect of the truth? Or is it merely a reason to make sense of something that we have no control over?

One of the reasons we have these conspiracy theories is because our government is so secretive about so much. And what’s crazy at times, they don’t even have a legitimate reason to keep the secrets they keep. Once you find out what they have been keeping secret for so long, it makes you frustrated to the point where you start to get angry. And for that reason, you have these conspiracy theorists that conjure up these ideas for why it’s such a secret. For example, the John F. Kennedy assassination from back in 1963. His autopsy documents will not be released for over 50 years after the assassination of the president. And now people are thinking, our president was killed, how can the public, not even his wife be privy to what happened to her husband. But are there other reasons as to why we need these theories?

Another reason is because we live in a random universe where random things tend to happen that are out of our human control. And sense we see so much that we control, it’s hard to accept that we tend to lose control over what should be controlling. And if not for mother nature, we would say that man created the tornadoes and hurricanes we have on Earth. WAIT A MINUTE! We do point the finger to global warming, even though hurricanes have going on before the burning of fossil fuels. Our lives are mundane without the knowledge of man; and there is something, a force greater than us that we are helpless against. But the moment man breaks rules, obviously the government put this plot together. Because as powerful as our government is, how can a few or even one person do so much damage. The reality is yes, one person can; and it creeps people out.

In the end, you will always have people that believe in these conspiracies. The problem with the conspiracies are the secrecy of the people and the putting together of the plan. And even in the face of hard evidence we still deny. I heard a Russian former KGB in a video talk about people and their lack of believing even in the face of fact. He said you can show them documents, and even go as far as taking them to the place of interest. They will deny until it is far too late deny any longer. And by that time, your reality is in your face and too much to change by this time. People need answers and the harsh reality is that not everything has an answer. Some things are messed up, and that’s that.

OH SAY CAN YOU STAND! WHAT COULD BE THE REAL ISSUE WITH NFL PROTEST

Image result for nfl protest

“Stand for something.”

Over the past couple of weeks, the news has been tracking the controversy over the protest by athletes over the national anthem. A move which have sent fans of football over the top. People feel that the protest is disrespectful to the flag and others feel it is disrespectful to the military. While you have a collection of people who feel both sentiment. Then there the viewers on the other end of the spectrum who feel that the players should be protesting the anthem over police brutality. But my question is, How many of these people are really upset over the national anthem?” Is it just the anthem, or is it more of a conversation that people don’t want to have? Are people stating that it is the anthem as a way to hide behind their true feelings? I have a few theories as to why, but I also have observed why it has to be more than just disrespect.

Fans of sports are saying it’s disrespectful, but there are much worse acts that go against the flag than an NFL protest. And for the most part, all we do is ignore the act. Yet, when an athlete kneels, you would think the world was going to end. If you are against the desecration of the flag, then why are you only compelled to act now? Why wait until a player kneel then go on the attack. It seems just as self serving as the athletes at this point. Especially not even a full month ago men and women marched holding Confederate flags and Swastikas in the streets of Virginia. And countless troops lost their lives during World War 2 fighting the Nazis. So for people to not come out in droves, it was quite odd to see it now. But I have three reasons why people are not as interested in the anthem; yet using the troops as something to hide behind.

Number one, you have the group that knows police brutality and racism exist, but just want to ignore it. They figure, maybe if I ignore it, it will go away. Just act like it is something that is just an isolated incident, then we can go about our daily lives. Because I work all week, and the last thing I want to hear is more politics. Now what I want is to come to the game and or watch it at home with my family. We get it it, you hate Trump, can I just watch this game in peace. This is to me the first level of people you have in America that are against the protest from the players. And then there are the second wave of people that exist who are against the National Anthem protest. And they are the I know it exist types of people, yet it’s not my problem.

The it’s not my problem people are the ones who say, “I know that it goes on, but it’s not my community.” They don’t care if you are getting abused by law enforcement or treated fairly because it isn’t reflective of where they live. To this group they are more concerned with what ales them and that’s it. They know when you walk up the street you’re going to deal with a degree of hate from someone if you’re a minority. But hey, when I walk throughout my community, it doesn’t look this way. And the police that are in my neighborhood are usually officers that live here in this neighborhood. So they way I see it, play ball and shut up. So this group feels this way, yet are they the only group outside the first group I explained? No; the third group are the real cynical people. They not only don’t care, but agree with the nature of the offense that is being protested.

They are the people who say, “I know it goes on, and you’re lucky it isn’t worse.” “Be happy you’re free in America to any extent because you shouldn’t have that much; now shut up and play football.” They are the people that would love to express their sentiment of how much they truly hate you, but can’t. So they hide behind fake profiles on the internet and talk trash. These people just want to be mad at anything, and at times they themselves exemplify disrespect for the flag. Yet now they can have a reason to be in on the hatred under the guise of the flag and military troops. And in the end, this is the fan base of football and how people feel. People love the flag and the troops, but to the extent that fans are going to, no. Because there are too many symbols that actually do spit in the face of America’s existence that we give a pass to, or ignore that are worse than the protest. But in this country people don’t express true sentiment, unless it’s in the comforts of their own homes.

THE STORM BEFORE THE CALM: HOW THE UNITED STATES IS SO MAD BECAUSE IT’S GETTING BETTER

Brown and Beige Wooden Barn Surrounded With Brown Grasses Under Thunderclouds

“The fight among ourselves is as volatile as the weather.”

America has always dealt with issues socially in our country. As with any country, there are issues in the past, in the present, and will be in the future. But the more recent problems that have popped up into existence in the news are decades, even a few centuries old. And those issues are race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion. You would think that these would be non-issues considering the United States government signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968. But just because you sign an act that keeps business, organizations, and schools from discriminating, it doesn’t change the people. People in society will always have bouts with each other over so many mundane topics. But is it going to really always be like this, or is it the storm before the calm rather than the usual phrase of the calm before the storm? Maybe this is the beginning of real change in America.

Because looking at America is like looking at how forest fires typically take place. A lot of the times, forest fires are sporadic, and seem to happen out of nowhere. But what’s interesting about forest fires, is that they burn everything, then lay down the foundation for new brush to grow from the area that was previously destroyed. And I thought that to be interesting considering America is that type of country. We burn things down, and once they burn we look back and realize, you know, that should have been burned down. Because we have something so much better that we live by now, it make the past seem ridiculous to go back. Now, you’re going to reach everyone, but it’s not about reaching everyone. It’s about creating the most stable environment for everyone to inhabit. And as longs as that stability is there, we have ground for something much better in the future. Are there any other reasons we fight because things are getting better?

Yes, we also tend to fight because there are people who remember a time where they didn’t have to work as hard, or even have their beliefs challenged. The way things were in the past was what it was, and no one dared to challenge. Now, you’re watching your word get challenged constantly. And you’re also unable to explain yourself because you never had to explain yourself. So you push back against the new ways simply because you see it as you becoming irrelevant. And no one wants to of themselves as irrelevant or outdated. Because this means you don’t have importance anymore. The landscape looks foreign to you, so you feel like you’re losing something. And in the end, this is what it all boils down to; winning and losing. People in America have this feeling that we are losing something in life. No matter how big or little, there was a time that benefited some and not others. And when you feel that is in jeopardy people begin to lose their cool. But as we look back over time, we begin to look at life differently.

SOCIAL MEDIA MADNESS: HOW SOCIAL MEDIA HAS BECOME THE NEW HYSTERIA

Related image

“Too much social media forces you to be less social.”

The personal computer was first designed as this educational tool for people in society. And since the advent of the internet, it has become this machine that got away from everyone. But once social media started to take hold, everything has began to go haywire. And why is that? Well, the main reason is because everyone in society today is allowed to have an opinion. It used to be in the past that having an opinion existed, but it wasn’t taken at such face value unless it came from more qualified people. Now, anyone who builds themselves a platform can speak to the masses. And not only speak to the masses, but also be taken seriously. But what is it about the social media landscape that causes the hysteria? For starters you have to understand us as people. This is a basic layout of who we are.

People are these emotional creatures who feel just because we have an emotion, it automatically means something. And that feeling is broad and changes constantly, which is why so many of our human emotions don’t mean anything. If you’re passionate about ten things, then three or four are important; maybe even less. But in the society we live in today, everything is supposed to be important. If I have ten things that are important to me, then all ten mean something. So when you turn on the computer, on top of the 24 hour news cycle, you have a constant reminder of how important all these things are to you. It’s to consistently keep your attention, but it inevitably creates more anxiety and depression. It speaks so much to the human psyche because everything is urgent, breaking news, or special report. All three aspects of life that make us panic when we think of anything important.

And on top of the importance you have people in society who want to be mad. In the past, people who were mad, just were mad. Now there is an outlet that allows them to have voice and these people are letting everyone hear their voices. They’re able to do so with social media, and we are listening. They know we are listening and they get louder by the day. So we look at all the news we are constantly bombarded with, and their hate comments, that we began to feel depressed ourselves. A seemingly happy person instantly becomes unhappy. And in the end, the hysteria comes from watching and reading so much on television and the internet. What has been created to inform us is making us depressed. So if you want to decreases your odds of going crazy, you have to disconnect every now and then.

red, white, and BLUES: HOW WE ARE SLOWLY STRIPPING EACH OTHER OF FREEDOM

Image result for nfl

“Break free from yourself.”

It has become redundant at this point, but another issue has spiraled out of control regarding President Donald Trump. This time it took place between him and players of the National Football League. This past weekend, he made comments in Huntsville, Alabama before a crowdd of his supporters regarding their protesting on the football field during the National Anthem. And the response was, as you guessed it, swift and wide spread. Because the very next day you saw over 200 players and team owners locking arms and dropping to one knee in solidarity with each other. So the response from those on the opposite side of the the protest say, “Well, we’ll show you by not patronizing football.” And the only issue with that form of protest is the flip side which is to come after you once again. Now as I sit here typing, I can’t help but to be shocked by rights we are taking away from each other. And might ask how are we doing so.

Well, I remember not even a year ago when political commentary Anne Coulter wanted to speak at Berkeley University in California. The uproar over her coming to the campus led to vandalism and rioting. The upheaval caused the event to be discontinued. Then as Colin Kaepernick took his knee to protest police brutality in America, he was ostracized in the same manner as Anne for his freedom of Image result for ann coulter berkeleyprotest. And to me the losers in all this are the American people. Not for going against the two individuals, but the fact that we are willing to attack each other’s rights because we disagree. You may not like what someone says or does, but I was under the impression that as long as no one is being physically harmed what’s the problem. Because we attack everything that is offensive to us, then everyone will be out of jobs. Since what offends us is so broad and ambiguous in our society. What is offensive to you might not be offensive to me and vice versa.

And where does it lead to next. If the people push back against the NFL, and NFL forces players to stop, then what. Now it leaves people on the conservative side open. Because it won’t stop there, it will be this constant ping pong game. And like I said prior, the only people getting hurt are the countless people that represent organizations Image result for freedomsthat don’t make big money who could lose their jobs because of the constant fighting. But that is something that does not seem to sink into the minds of so many people. We hurt those, who for the most part just want to work and make it home to their families. I’m not saying that we should stop giving our opinions, I’m simply saying, everything is not meant to be fighting. What ever happened to the right to be offended. If you don’t like something, disconnect.

And in the end, that is the main problem. People hate to have something they feel passionately about go on deaf ears. But is it real passion, or just a reason to be mad. You never know because no one is honest with how they truly feel. But why are people losing everything they work for because I disagree. I pride myself on being more liberal than conservative. But I am not compelled to boycott someone just because I don’t like what they speak about or protest. We have become our own enemies. With a $700 billion defense budget to protect us against so much, it is internal where the main problems lie today.

SELECTIVE ACCOUNTABILITY: HOW WE TRANSFER RESPONSIBILITY TO SOME AND NOT OTHERS

Image result for accountable

“I did that and assume responsibility.”

Ever watch television and you hear newscasters saying how much people in the public eye need to be held accountable. And what’s funny about them is if you state that they are held to the same standard, they dismiss what you are saying to them. Like people on CNN and FOX News, they are public figures in a celebrity way, yet they try to dismiss their celebrity under the guides of members of the press. But they truly are public figures just as much as any athlete or entertainer. And that’s when you realize that we all try to hold someone accountable, but then shift the blame when it’s time for ourselves or someone close to us. Because if it’s us or someone close to us, or even people we support in society, there is always this spin to how we rationalize. We say things like, “Well, they’re different.” “Or, you make certain amount of money.”

So why do we have a spin to our personal agendas? One reason is because by definition, an agenda is an ideological plan implemented to come to an agreement of meeting an objective. Which is a broad and ambiguous meaning for a word. But the real hidden aspect of an agenda are the “held common beliefs.” And that is something in society which makes the agenda become a problem. Because the group of people pushing any agenda today does so that it supports its own interest and not necessarily the interest of everyone. And here lies the reason why it’s hard to hold someone or groups of people accountable for their actions. It’s because once you pick a side, you usually stand firm on that side. And refusing to bend or break is the way we go about handling the situation. But at times you become so convinced of your belief in your agenda, you lose rationale and easily become taken down a rabbit hole.

And the rabbit hole is what happens when you say things like, “Athletes are held to certain level of accountability.” “But then turn around and say my national newscaster is giving the news so it’s different when they speak.” When in reality, your newscaster may be held to an even higher level of accountability and should, than the entertainer. It’s an easy out, and the ability to not have to have a conversation about a topic, or even the fact that you are trying to keep people from reading into who are as a person. And we don’t like to say, well I do that as well, and I am going to make the leap to change because I expect that from other people. No, we say it’s different, but it’s really not different. We just don’t want to change and we hide behind what we expect from you to mask who we really are behind closed doors.

In the end, we all have these accountability issues as it pertains to ourselves or other people. And a lot of it has to do with our belief systems. We want so dearly to believe that what we believe matters. So if what I believe matter, then what am I left with. Inevitably we hold people to a task we don’t hold ourselves to, or those close to us.
