YES YOU MAY: AMERICA AND OUR PERMISSION TO FIGHT BACK

“Speak when allowed, how come?”

In America today, we are constantly surrounded with controversy. Whether it’s the president or some other person in the public eye. But what I will never understand is how come we need so much permission to have a voice for ourselves. It’s almost as if the people can’t think for themselves. In the recent news we have been hearing about Hollywood Executive Producer Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct over the years. And people have been coming out stating how they knew he was this type of person for years. But how come no one openly spoke about it. We hold truths inside and then when we get permission to speak we speak. And the only reason why this has become irritating is because of the self-serving attitude of Hollywood’s elite public figures. How could they be so social and yet so protective of Harvey. And its because they get permission.

But, you’re getting permission to speak, what about the issues. You always hear celebrities speak out against bad behavior, but they always find themselves in the middle of controversy for those same reasons. They attacked Trump for sexual comments he made and stated their upset with rape culture. But rape is bigger in their environment. And what will they say, my career is on the line. So were coaches jobs at Penn State, but you can’t protect pedophilia. And that’s when you realize as an adult you have to make immoral decisions to survive in America. You have to see things going on and keep your mouth shut. Crazy because as a child you are taught that when you see something say something. But no one prepares for a life of falsehoods. No tells you that there is no honor in being honest. That at every turn, honesty will get you killed. And why do we do it again: survival.

That’s right, survival. Since the beginning of time, man has made numerous attempts at surviving on this planet. And we have done just well for ourselves. But as it pertains to living with each other, we continue to fail one another. And we lie for each other because no one wants to feel ostracized. So we do things to each other and for each other that is out of character. Sometimes it could leave our better judgement under question. And that’s how wind-up back  having to survive, we don’t want to lose a gig. So we sacrifice better judgement for a check. And it’s because if we do take a stand, few will back us, and even fewer will fight with us. So we keep quiet, not realizing that our silence at times is just as dangerous as the person’s lies we’re covering.

And in the end, we get permission to speak out against someone. And that’s when we can open up about all the bad things they have done. And the populace is stunned, and you become relieved. But relief is short lived because you know that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are more bad guys, a lot more.

KEEP QUIET AND KEEP WORKING: WHY WE PROTECT PEOPLE IN POWER WHO DO WRONG

“Power can corrupt to be covered up.”

The photo above is of legendary film producer Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein has been in the news over the past week since the allegations of his sexual misconduct over the years emerged. Now that he has been removed the Weinstein Company, the conversations are starting. So many people are now saying that they knew something was up. Actresses are stating to now come out and share their stories. But, how come no one came out sooner? And it has a lot to do with having a position of power. A man like Weinstein is at the top of the heap in the entertainment business. So no one would dare come out and state how they genuinely felt. Only a chosen few have stated how they felt and the rest kept quiet. And now that he is ostracized, it’s in the books that we can all now talk about Harvey. So what is about power that keeps people quiet?

As children, we are raised to be honest and stand-up. Then once we become adults, all the rules go out the door. We find ourselves defending people that we would otherwise never defend. Because it’s easy to say that we are these stand-up people when there is nothing on the line. But in that space and time, it’s harder to go against the grain. And the higher the person sits on the totem pole, the harder it is to talk. So if you work a regular 9-5, and see misconduct you get nervous. But at this level you can anonymously give the name of the person/people involved. On the other hand, when looking at a company the size of Enron, you can understand why it’s a tougher go. But a woman did flip on Enron, yet ever since then, she has been a pariah in the financial sector, even though she is a hero to the masses.

Which is a main reason as well that people don’t talk and protect the ones in power. It’s also because when the time comes to testify, you will be ostracized later on. Why, well because so many people might be conducting the same type of business. So they applaud because they are happy it’s not them getting penalized. And in the end we all keep quiet when we see things happening. Because no one wants to feel the repercussions of being ousted for talking. So keep quiet, and keep your job; then talk if something is ever uncovered. It’s ugly, but that is the harsh reality of living in our society where power reigns supreme.

GUN COUNTRY: THE DIVISIVENESS OF FIREARMS COVERSATIONS

Image result for GUNS IN AMERICA

“My 2nd amendment says so.”

It has only been a few days since the mass shooting in Las Vegas which claimed the lives of 58 people. And already political pundits are in conversations surrounding gun ownership. Should we be able to own them or not? Should the ownership of guns be based on the caliber of weapon? Because a lot of people have no problem with handguns. But when it comes to higher caliber weapons, that’s when the conversation intensifies. And the guns of choice that causes such controversy are the following: AR-15, AK47, Tech9 Uzi, M16, and the 50/60 caliber rifles. These are weapons that can pump out multiple bullets in just seconds. Some ask, why do you need to own a gun with such force. Others say why not because it’s our rights. Well, both people for and against to an extent would be right. Well, how so?

On the side of the gun control people, there is some logic to additional control on top of the already gun control. Number one, there should be to some extent, psychological background checks in order to own firearms. Your mental health should come into play when owning a gun. Any mental instability should raise a red flag. Now, even if the person seek help and they are in a better mental space than prior, they should still have a tough time attaining a gun. Another rational argument is that it is an amendment, but the time period in which the document was written is totally different than today. In the times of the second amendment being written, they intended for people to own the guns of their time period. The second amendment also was to keep an additional checks and balance over the government so we wouldn’t be subject to abuse from the system. But if the government wanted to stop you in today’s society, your highest caliber of rifle couldn’t stop them.

As for the gun owners in America who feel their rights are being infringed upon, they have a different point of view. They understand the background checks, but guns that are killing people everyday in America are not by legalized owners. A lot of the high statistics are aimed at the inner city communities where guns are used in gangland battles. And politicians are using that statistic to restrict gun owners, while not addressing the problem in these communities. And a lot of these guns used are stolen anyways, so background checks don’t work all the time. As far as the second amendment, the fore fathers did think of the guns of their time. But using that logic, the guns of their time was muskets, but the guns of our time are higher caliber rifles. We also have the right to protect our homes and families just as well as the public figures of America. Considering the homes invaded on a daily and nightly basis are the homes of the average Joe.

In the end, political conversations have been going debating this issues for years. Nothing is going to happen because for the most part, gun ownership is seen as more of a conservative viewpoint. And even with the country switching between liberal and conservative, conservatism in America still reigns supreme. And as long as we have a large country-municipal-township-America and a smaller metropolis America, gun ownership will be around. Meaning, a lot of people against gun ownership usually live in major metropolitan cities. But America is not a metropolis, it’s a lot of towns and cities you have never heard of. And as long as they exist, we will see gun ownership in America.

TRUTHERS: WHY CONSPIRACIES OCCUR AFTER MASSIVE EVENTS

Related image

“Planned randomness, or randomness?”

No matter if it’s the September 11th attacks that claimed the lives of a few thousand to the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, people are already starting to put together their conspiracies as to what “REALLY” took place in Vegas. And notice I said really in quotations. Because people have to believe that there has been some sort of foul play on the part of the government. Some type of false flag that leads us in a bad direction and away from the truth. And that truth has always been to divide and conquer. But why do people do it? Why must we come up with these different types of conspiracy theories to make sense of the events that take place in our lives? Does it have to do with some aspect of the truth? Or is it merely a reason to make sense of something that we have no control over?

One of the reasons we have these conspiracy theories is because our government is so secretive about so much. And what’s crazy at times, they don’t even have a legitimate reason to keep the secrets they keep. Once you find out what they have been keeping secret for so long, it makes you frustrated to the point where you start to get angry. And for that reason, you have these conspiracy theorists that conjure up these ideas for why it’s such a secret. For example, the John F. Kennedy assassination from back in 1963. His autopsy documents will not be released for over 50 years after the assassination of the president. And now people are thinking, our president was killed, how can the public, not even his wife be privy to what happened to her husband. But are there other reasons as to why we need these theories?

Another reason is because we live in a random universe where random things tend to happen that are out of our human control. And sense we see so much that we control, it’s hard to accept that we tend to lose control over what should be controlling. And if not for mother nature, we would say that man created the tornadoes and hurricanes we have on Earth. WAIT A MINUTE! We do point the finger to global warming, even though hurricanes have going on before the burning of fossil fuels. Our lives are mundane without the knowledge of man; and there is something, a force greater than us that we are helpless against. But the moment man breaks rules, obviously the government put this plot together. Because as powerful as our government is, how can a few or even one person do so much damage. The reality is yes, one person can; and it creeps people out.

In the end, you will always have people that believe in these conspiracies. The problem with the conspiracies are the secrecy of the people and the putting together of the plan. And even in the face of hard evidence we still deny. I heard a Russian former KGB in a video talk about people and their lack of believing even in the face of fact. He said you can show them documents, and even go as far as taking them to the place of interest. They will deny until it is far too late deny any longer. And by that time, your reality is in your face and too much to change by this time. People need answers and the harsh reality is that not everything has an answer. Some things are messed up, and that’s that.

LOST HOPE = LOST LIVES: WHY SO MANY SUFFER BECAUSE OF THE ACTIONS OF A FEW

Related image

“When the actions of one effects so many.”

Last night, America was hit with breaking news coverage of another mass shooting. This time in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of people attending the concert of country music recording artist Jason Aldean. What people at first thought to be fire works turned out to be gun fire. The shooting was coming from one of the hotel windows of the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Resort. The assailant targeted crowd of people who were at the Route 91 Harvest grounds, which is located across the street from the hotel and casino. This morning the news has now confirmed fifty people dead and over four hundred wounded. Now my topic today is why must the actions of a few dictate so much of our daily lives? Because I can already hear the critics against so much of the second amendment. Should we be having these discussions instead of honoring the victims?

My first view is of the actions of a few. So many of the laws we put into place are always in response of a few people. And when I say the few, I mean 10 people who affects the lives of 10,000 others. It shouldn’t be allowed considering 10:10,000 is of such low significance. But when you see the aftermath of these ten people, then you’re able to somewhat understand. Because last night the person who did this was responsible for hundreds being affected. Now think if 10 people were assailants last night. Which is why we are forced to change the way we all live. So, does this mean we need stricter gun laws in the United States? Because like I stated in the paragraph prior, you can already hear the arguments being made over gun control. And should we observing what has taken place last night?

Now, those that are not into the political debate will say it’s too early for such comments. But we have no choice but to discuss this as well as why this shooting has taken place. We are already in a very socially and politically charged climate right now. So who knows what the reasoning for the shooting could be. But since the assailant is dead, we will not, at least for the time being, know why this took place. But we can all agree that we are living in a very divisive country right now. From the crisis in Houston and the Caribbean stemming from the the hurricanes to the politically charged protest in the NFL. But in the end, when life is at stake, or life is lost, it stalls so much in society. And in this landscape when there is chaos, we come to each others’ aid. But, above all, in the future, I only hope we can decrease the chances of these incidents like what took place last night in Vegas from happening.

LOSING EVERYTHING FOR NOTHING: WHY ARE PEOPLE SACRIFICING THEIR ALL FOR AMERICA’S CURRENT CLIMATE

Image result for AMERICA PROTEST CHARLOTTESVILLE

“Long after Trump is gone, you will be hurting.”

Protesting, fighting, arguing! All of this in fighting over the election of President Donald J. Trump. People are at odds with each other, and even families & friends have become fragmented as a result. And for what, over a man who is a billionaire that won’t be effected by any of this when he leaves the White House. Long after Trump have left the White House people are going as far as sacrificing their freedom over this election. And what’s sad is that it still won’t change anything. America will continue on as usual, status quo in place, and the move forward will commence. Meaning, from the guy who drove his car into the crowd of people in Charlottesville, Virginia to the counter protesters backlash.

Those involved might look back and go, what the hell was all this about. The guy who drove his car into a crowd will go to prison, and his life is over. A new administration will come and go, and your life is done. The guys carrying the torches at the University of Virginia campus who lost their jobs, how will you pay your bills. To the counter protesters fighting back and getting arrested, I hope you all know what you’re doing. I’m not saying not to push back against things you feel are infringing on your rights, but is it a righteous fight. During the Civil Rights movement, you had no choice but to be involved because there were major human rights violations. But today, issues exist, but we are fighting for the most part because we disagree with people’s stance, not an infringing of rights.

And like I said before, this administration will blow over, while all these people and their relationships are ruined. People feel so strongly about their political views because they want to feel like their voices mean something. And in reality, the American government’s job is to find ways to move forward. Moving forward meaning, aimed at trying to be one of the leaders in this new technological era. Yet people are more focused on their historical sentiments from the 1700’s, 1800’s, and 1900’s. Crazy thing is that the top one percent could care less about Trump and his followers ideology, as well Trump adversaries. Because while people focus on things that will blow over, the other portion of people focused on this new game will advance. And what will happen inevitably from those not focused?

In the end, fighting will calm and questions will be asked as to how others manage to gain their positions. It’s like the old saying, “When there’s blood in the street buy property.” And that is the truth because people in the know are looking for capital gains. They are financially empowering themselves while others fight. So when the blood is done being spilled, the fighters will be worst off than before, and the wealthy will be at an even higher level than before.

A LESSON BEFORE DYING POSTS: WHY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP MATTERS

Image result for a lesson before dying

“The choices we tend to make in life.”

The above photo is of the historical fiction novel, A Lesson Before Dying. This book would later go on to be made into a motion picture played by Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson, and Mekhi Phifer. A story about a young man sentenced to death for the killing of a store clerk and two of his associates. The film gave a really great depiction of the racial relationships of the South, as well as the harsh realities of growing up Black in the region. Now my topic today is how does ones’ choices influence their lives moving forward. Because in A Lesson Before Dying, all the main character had to do was pass on a ride with his friends.

We may all see it as nothing more than just a ride with some friends. Yet, in the film, there was something that made Mekhi Phifer, the young man sentenced to die, hesitate before getting in the car. Something in him knew he shouldn’t have been riding with those guys. It’s a feeling at times that we all have when being in the presence of someone we know we shouldn’t. It does not necessarily have to be a group of friends. You could be in the presence of family and a monogamous relationship. But the reasoning for Mekhi’s character getting into trouble is a story anyone can relate to; outside the racial premise of the film.

So many young men have been offered rides by their friends. Then get into the car and find out in the course of the ride, their friends have just committed a crime. How do you explain to the judge that you had no hand in the matter? The answer is, you don’t; and unless they state you had nothing to do with the matter, you’ll go to jail as well. Better yet, what happens when you ride somewhere and the people you are with commit the crime while you’re there with them? There is no way to plead your way out of that situation. In the case of A lesson Before Dying, the culprits died themselves, and Phifer was charged and executed for the crimes. In today’s society, you might be able to argue your way out, but not Jim Crow South.

Which brings me to my last reason point regarding the company you keep. You need to understand where you live and the laws as well. Southern laws are of the strictest laws in America. And what may be a slap on the wrist in one state is prison time in another. So in the end, you need to understand a few key words of advice. Watch the company you keep, be comfortable with decisions you make, and understand the place in which you reside.
