MAKING YOUR OWN LUCK: HOW TO OPEN YOUR OWN DOORS TO SUCCESS

“Don’t wait for someone else, you make you.”

So many people in the United States have a hard time securing themselves a spot in our economy. They live their daily lives not doing what it is they want to do. Working dead end jobs and working just to have enough money to exist. Then there are the people who step out into society and make things happen for themselves. And the question now stands, “What separates the people who stepped out versus the others? Was it some form of talent that the other didn’t possess, was it the opportunities, or was it the willingness to not give in and give up. The answer is all of the above. But more so, you have to be willing to make your own luck.

What does that mean to make your own luck? Especially in a society where we have become so dependent on one way of succeeding in America, now that focus has shifted. And if you can’t shift with the focus you get left behind. The factories where automobiles were manufactured is a prime example of the focus shifting and to a more automation driven workplace. People were so used to a daily task that when the task changed to a more informational base/engineering base, people have a hard time shifting. Others see this as how societies have always shifted. So they just roll with the punches. But what I just said is still not enough information to make your own luck.

Let’s say you have a skill in teaching. You know that finding a good teaching job is tough. There are so many internet web portals where teachers are making an extra income working for themselves. They are building their resumes this way until something comes along. Tutoring multiple students counts as work history. It will show not only can you command a student’s attention, but your initiative to put yourself out there proves you could make a good educator. Or, let’s say you want to get into the medical field at a great hospital. But getting a job at this hospital is so tough. Try to work at a small clinic and build credibility with a community. Or try working overseas at a clinic in a poor village. You are not making much money, but you will learn to appreciate patients and medicine outside the monetary until you can get to that point.

All of this is hard because people say things  like, “You have better opportunities because you grew up with money.” “I was born to a certain economic situation.” “I am a minority and no one will hire me.” Fine, let’s say I am empathetic to your plight, now what. What is expected next? And that’s just it, what next. You grew up poor, minority, and poor education system. But there has to be a what are you looking for in this momentary position. Meaning, I grew up poor, I am an adult now. What do you expect someone to do for you today? For instance, I grew up the first 18 years broke, I am 30 years old now. Now I have nothing to show, but it was because I grew up poor. Ok, today is Friday, what are you hoping to expect Monday morning. Most people will say a job.

Ok, we are getting somewhere, a job. Then I ask what can you do, what do you do, and what have you done lately. This is when you hear crickets. Because people say it’s hard to get a job when you need work experience to get a job. So with that said how do I make my own luck. Well for starters, work experience is not necessarily a paid employment position. And a job is an ambiguous term, what position and title. Like my previous post, I spoke about self awareness being needed to make your own luck. If you are aware of self, you know the job title, income range, time on average to attain what it is you want. With that said, you can make something out of what seems like nothing. But when you have no awareness of what you’re good at, what are you good for. “I want a job,” you say; then I say, “What are your skills?” Nothing formulates after that with some people.

In the end, making your own luck comes from self awareness, willingness to not give in, accepting failure, and willing to start from somewhere. People only look at the finished outcome and judge based on that alone. There is some regular man or woman walking the street now, and we see them as normal. Once they hit a stride in their careers, we go, how. What you should do is ask people on their path to something, then once you see the finished product you can understand how they got there. But as long as you go you’re successful, it’s this, you miss all that in between work when no one knew who they were. It was the in between work of failures, living broke, consistency that landed them on their success path. Because experience is a broad term, yet that is what they were gaining, experience. They didn’t have dollars, but they had experience over you.

MOVING FORWARD: THE FUTURE OF AMERICA

“Where are we going to go from here?”

Since Donald Trump walked into the White House, his supporters have all been waiting to see what decision he will make regarding employment in America. He has promised to open the factory doors of America and make products here in this country. A lot of our goods in America are made in China, a move that has cost a lot of Americans jobs over the past few decades. So the question remains, how does he plan on doing this in a society where automation is replacing manpower? And where should we move from here since the factories may not be coming back?

In the United States, for decades, this country made and bought within goods and services. But over the past few decades there has been a sharp decline. Jobs, mainly factory work, has been moved overseas to places like Mexico, India, and China. The cost to the organization is cheaper and the good is cheaper for us to pay for in the stores. Making the product here would drive the cost up because the organization must cover the cost of labor. The raw materials to make the good is cheap as well as the production. But the people working is what brings the expenses up. So people want these low prices, but want jobs here.

Now we move to Donald Trump coming into power. A man who has been criticized for his language. Yet I want to see how he manages to bring those jobs back. Better yet, why are we still focused on being an industrialized nation when the future of society is computer engineering. Everything is falling into the tech space. Whereas few people in the past were becoming engineers, now everyone is moving into the tech space. Especially in the recent years, considering so many young people have become billionaires from the ideas they have created.  It’s no wonder so many people are joining in. Yet the American workers feel this new technology could prove disastrous for them. But this isn’t anything new, we have always moved groups of people aside via technological innovation.

Back in the early 1900’s, mule pulling was a way of farming. Do you know how many people lost out once the combine was invented? Where is the sympathy to all these mule pullers. You don’t care because no one wants to pull a mule through the fields. And don’t forget all these public libraries closing because people are using the internet. We as a society have always innovated, but now that the generation who benefited from someone else hurting, is now complaining. This will also happen with my age group. Because we can’t keep a society one way for an eternity.  We have to continue to innovate, if not we lose to other nations that will.

In the end, we have and will always move forward with technology. And with that move, people will lose out, and others will adjust. You have to be willing to roll with the punches. Get on the bus, or risk getting left behind. Because America is not, and can’t afford to go back in time. This nations has to compete on a global scale, so if the new standard is tech, then it’s tech we must learn. Grow as a nation or die out as one of the world’s last dynasties.

THE ME INSIDE OF ME: HOW TO TAP INTO YOUR SELF AWARENESS

“What are your mind mechanics?”

So many people in our world have such a hard time succeeding in what they aim to become in life. We all have heard the reasons as to why: I was born poor, I was born with a lack of adequate education in my environment, I am a minority, I am a woman, I have a different religious belief that is not what everyone else believes, or my sexual orientation. And you know what, we have and never will live in a utopia society. These are aspects of our daily lives that we have to overcome. But we also have another aspect of why we can’t succeed and that is a lack of self-awareness. And what do I mean by the lack of self-awareness?

I am referring to the skills and talents that we possess that sets us apart from each other. We’ve heard of the sayings, “Everyone is special in their own way.” Now that I am an adult I feel this is true more than ever. But how come so many people can’t tap into the inner skill they possess. This doesn’t matter your education, economic situation, ethnicity, religion, or gender. This is that inner thing that all people are endowed with in life. How does one get into the right mind-frame to attain hold of that gift? Because the human mind is very complex, yet the average human is not a complex person, but more of a simplistic person. It’s because with all the complexity that makes up the mind, so many people can’t harness it. Meaning, there are a series of, “Oh, that’s what that means.” These “ah ha” moments that create joins in the mind.

It sounds weird and sci-fi driven, but it is real. And the reason so many can’t connect, is because there is no self awareness. For example, people say, we need jobs. Then you ask them, “A job, doing what?” And they look at you and shrug their shoulders. A job is a broad ambiguous term, CEO is a job and flipping burgers is a job. What job title, what income, what employment package, what position after what time-frame? You need to be more direct instead of job and making good money. No one can define what good is, so asking me to provide you with a good paying job is a wrong way to go about attaining employment. Because I don’t know what is good for you, you do. So it is your job to say what you need a job doing what.

The reason this is so hard is because people don’t have a real discernible skill that makes them employable. Because you ask them, “What is your skill?” And they reply to you, “I don’t have one.” With no skill, what job can you get? You can’t get a job. Now some may be thinking, what about training programs? Well you can train people to do anything, but sustainability is on the basis of skill and talent, on top of the hard work. So, it is impossible to create a job among people with no skill or direction in what it is they want. Throwing money at something doesn’t help. You need to invest in people, but the people have to have something that is worth investing in that is sustainable with growth potential. Meaning, I am unemployed; someone says, “What do you do?” I reply, “I have my degree in Computer Science and I have intermediate experience with Java Script and CSS.” There is potential there. But someone who says, “I just need a good paying job.” There is no direction in what they want, because good paying job is not a real want.

All of what I have said comes from the ability to tap into the human mind that is you. In the end, if you are not able to harness how your mind works no one can help you in moving forward. It’s like dealing with a baby when trying to get people help. The baby cries and parents ask what’s wrong. The baby think you should know, but you are not that human. You can only guess what the baby needs. Only in society, you’re not dealing with a baby, it’s a fully grown adult. So you’re asked questions by adults who look at you and expect you to know their situation. Or they want you to feel their situation. Only problem is you have the issue, now what. You still need to tap into talent you or skill you. Without you understanding how your brain works to communicate what it is you need, no one will be able to assist you with anything in life. Because if you don’t know you, how will I assist you.

VICES: HOW THIS ACHILLES HILL CAN RUIN OUR LIVES

“How does it affect your life?”

Everyone has a vice in life that may or may not keep them from performing their daily duties in life. These vices can be something as simple as snacking on unhealthy food throughout the day or more severe like drugs. Where these vices come from, who really knows, but they are there. A lot of the time we can talk through these problems, then there are the times we have vices that are flat out impossible to have conversations around. Well, why, why is it so hard to have a conversation about that thing that is keeping you from living a life of morality? And a lot of it has to do with the shame associated with the vice.

That’s right shame, the shame that comes with the vice is so hard to talk about. Well, why is that? It’s because we have so many taboos associated with certain things that we can’t have conversations around the vice. For instance, what if the vice is watching porn. Who wants to say they indulge in watching pornography. No one wants to admit it, but we all know the names of some famous porn stars. We all watch, yet we are afraid of how others may receive it. But it is that same group of people who watch themselves. It’s almost as if we are all waiting to be judge by ourselves. We’re worried others may say, “That is wrong or that is immoral.” Yet they do it on some level as well. How about other vices we have as people that make it difficult to talk about.

Another common vice in society is drug use. And when I say drug use, I am not only referring to the narcotics such as Crack Cocaine, Cocaine, Heroin, and Marijuana. I am also referring to the more used prescription medicine. This is in use more than the heavy narcotics, but why. The reasons can be broad as to why. Some do it because it eases any physical pain, some do it to suppress some hidden emotion. And the reason behind the heavy use of the prescription is because there is also less taboo associated with prescription than heavy narcotics. Popping a Vicodin or drinking Oxycontin, people automatically think you are ill and need the drug. It’s a lot better than openly snorting Cocaine or shooting Heroin.

Now, we know the vice and why so many people have them. But what is it about the vice that makes it detrimental? And the detriment of the vice is when it starts to effect your daily life. Now consuming over the counter medicine can be a tricky one, but using heavier street narcotics is a no go. Watching porn is not immoral unless you’re watching underage or it gets in the way of your daily progress. Even alcohol consumption is fine until you decide to get in a car after drinking or you start to develop an illness from the alcohol. You see, in the end, what I’m trying to say is it’s all in moderation. Like I said before, prescription medicine is tricky, but street narcotics is never good in moderation. Other activities are fine in moderation as well. It’s all about balance, but when you’re out of balance, and the vice takes over your life. Then you’re going to start to develop problems that could effect your productivity.

SUPERVISOR OR DICTATOR: DO YOU NEED TO BE A TOUGH EMPLOYER

Image result for supervisor

“Who do you prefer to work for in life?”

We have all worked for them, and can’t stand to be around them. They are supervisors on jobs who you live to hate. They are the overbearing types that push and push and push until you do something or say something you regret. They don’t have much power in their own lives, so having a say over you is worth coming to work for them. But I have to ask the question, Do you really have to be hated to be respected on a job? Do you have to carry a big stick in order to grab people’s attention? My answer is no, you don’t have to be the dictator in order to get people to listen. So why are there people like this on the job?

Like I said before, for starters, they are people who don’t get respect in their daily lives outside of work. So when they get on the job, they can be some of the hardest people to work for. Not receiving respect in your daily life in society makes you resent. But most of all, these types of people who don’t get respect know people who do. And if you are someone that get respect easily, and you work for someone that don’t, they can sense it. And they will make your life hell because you remind them of how much they don’t get it. You will also remind them of the people in society that they want respect from and don’ get it.

See, you don’t have to be the dictator to get people to listen. One of the ways to get people to listen is connect to your employees. This task is easily accomplished when you are a good communicator. But most of all, the people who work for you will be able to read that you are a good communicator. So you won’t have to be the dictator type because you know what people need and they know what you expect from them. But, are there other reasons as to why employers may be the dictator? What about the physicality of the person in charge or their gender?

Physicality can play a role in the type of supervisor you’re going to get. At times, you notice men who are less attractive and shorter, I’ve noticed can be tough. Well, how so, how does this play a factor in the way they supervise? Being in the midst of more physical alpha males, you see this Napoleon complex where they might be tougher on you than anyone else. Or if they see people naturally connect to you because you look a certain way. As far as gender, women and men have different styles of supervising. I have had either very friendly or very rude women I have worked for. The very tough feel they have to be because since they are a woman people feel they can walk over them. And the very friendly act this way because they don’t want to come off as too aggressive.

In the end, working for an employer can be either an enjoyable or depressing work environment. Now, for the chosen few who work for themselves and are able to elude this, consider yourselves lucky. Then again, if you are your own boss, chances are, you have employees. So it may be you who is the intolerable employer.

TRUTH BE TOLD: DO WOMEN REALLY WANT US ALL THE TIME?

“Do they really want us like we think they do?”

When observing monogamous relationships, we seem to think that it is men and not women who have a hard time being tied down. But, who’s to say that women really want to be with us. Or who’s to say they want us all the time. Women are typically the more emotional ones in the relationship, so we think that women are these sweet and innocent beings that only want us. Me, growing up around a lot of women in my life, you have enough conversations with them and realize that aspects of the previous statements regarding women are not all the way true. Well, you ask, what aspects of women am I referring to.

One of the aspects I am referring to is the notion that men are more sexual than women. Men are supposed to be more apt to cheat, but I think women think just as much as men do about infidelity. The only problem is that social norms in society frown on women being more sexual than men. But social norms and who we are biologically as humans are different. Women are expected to suppress feelings because it is socially immoral. Yet the internal feelings say something different. Women see plenty of men that they are attracted to, and yet never make a move. Now, outside of social norms, men generally are more impulsive while women observe a situation. But that’s the not the autonomous number of women and men.

Another aspect of women not being able to be at times who they truly want to be with us is the choosing method. When choosing a man, women would really prefer to be with someone who they love that loves them. But society tells you to be with a guy of a certain financial and educational means. You may not even want to be with this person, yet they have on paper what you are taught you should want from a man. I have always wondered do women really care, or do they “HAVE” to make excuses. Because women usually say, he doesn’t have this and this, but he has this other quality. Why do women have to point out the greater of what he does not have to uplift what he does have that is considered the lesser to where he could be in life. This has to do with a space of judging as well as biological.

I say biological because there is something very attractive about us as men when we are productive members of society. But it’s even more attractive to women when we start from nothing and build ourselves to something. Then again, society, once again, dictates a lot of how we live our lives. Women are expected to make excuses for what a guy lacks by stating he doesn’t have this, but has this. At times she really want to say, I wish he had this and this, so I wouldn’t have to choose between to the two (Oh, and by the way, it goes both ways). They would love to say, “Why can’t I be with a man who is successful in his career and can please me sexually.” Why must I say, “It aint all about the sex.” In reality she wants the sex and the career.

You see, in the end, women are expected to be the better of the two of us. They’re expected to be the moral compass of the relationship. It further feeds into the ideology of the woman’s way is the right way. Yet, since when is anyone right all the time. Sometimes she want you to be right about something. But when you live in a society that makes you feel like you are the face for what is right and wrong, where do you find time to be human? You need someone to be right in cases where you are wrong. You would really like to be overt sometimes, but you’re always expected to be nonverbal and passive. I will say that times are a lot different than in the past. But we still, even in a modern era, expect women to be the greater morally & ethically and the lesser sexually & emotionally.

YOU CAN’T CHOOSE ‘EM; FAMILY!

Image result for no family

“We are not what we used to be.”

We can’t pick them, we can’t get rid of them; and that is our family. The problems we face in life are challenging enough, but what about trying to appease the people who are closest to you. How about trying to live your life while they stand on the sidelines and judge. Sad to say, but sometimes these are people who can become more of a burden on your life than complete strangers. But why, why are families so much more tougher than others in society? Why is that these are the main people who you should be able to depend on the most that are the ones you have to sometimes protect yourself from the most?

Well, for starters because people feel that since you and them carry the same bloodline that constitutes they have a say in your life. Yes we are connected biologically, but we mentally we are different people. Just because we are spawn from the same lineage does not mean you know everything there is to know about me. As a matter of fact one of the reasons why relationships last so long is not just because you admit when you’re wrong and love your significant other. It has a lot to do with the idea that when you two have problems in the household you don’t pick up that telephone to call your family. Because family members are going to give you advice based on their own personal situations not what is good for you in life.

Where does this entitlement that since we are related you’re owed to something come from? Because every family has that mind-frame, why? In my opinion, I think people have that mind-frame because the meaning of what family is, is a very ambiguous meaning. It all depends on the person who is interpreting what is family. To one person, family does whatever it takes to help each other, some believe tough love is the best method. I look at family as everyone pulls their weight. Meaning if I have milk, you have cereal, this person has bowls, and this person has utensils, then “WE” can eat breakfast. Family is not for a single person or few carrying the load of all. Because usually what happens is if that person is longer around, the family dynamics collapse.

See, in the end, your family are not something you choose, but it’s what you’re born into. But that doesn’t mean  just because we have the same bloodline we know everything about each other. In addition, you shouldn’t tell family everything as well. Some things are mean’t for them not to know and some things are mean’t for them to know.
